Attending the Koloso Festival of Numbers

This blog is kindly written by Bronze Coaches Asa C. Lwanga and Anthony Phiri

The warm September breeze carried with it an air of excitement as our team made its way to Woodford School on the 21st of September. It was a special day - the Koloso Festival of Numbers - a much-anticipated event organised by Koloso, a mathematics learning app. Maths enthusiasts, educators, and students gathered to celebrate the power of numbers. Our mission was clear: to showcase our innovative maths programmes and connect with educators and students alike.

Upon arriving, we were greeted by the vibrant energy of the festival. Booths lined the school grounds showcasing interactive games and advanced educational technologies. Edulution’s booth, nestled among the lively crowd, drew over 300 attendees, including students, teachers, and even key educational officials. All were eager to learn about our unique approach to maths education.

Edulution Coaches with interested learners

Edulution’s team, led by Asa C. Lwanga and Anthony Phiri, Bronze Coaches passionate about educating the next generation, dived into action. We engaged with attendees, demonstrating our interactive learning models and simulations, offering them a glimpse into how we are reshaping maths learning. Our mental maths demos were a particular crowd favourite. Students were excited about enhancing their speed and confidence.

We came to the festival with three key objectives:

  1. To showcase Edulution’s numeracy programme, interactive content, analytical ability, and learning methodology

  2. To network with educators and students, form connections to help us expand our impact, and to learn from teachers and stakeholders who share our mission

  3. To gather feedback and valuable insights into the current needs and challenges of maths education, helping us to improve our services

As the day progressed, our booth became a hub of activity. We invited students and teachers to explore the interactive materials we had on display, exhibiting how we are making maths accessible and fun. We also shared stories of our successful interventions and student’s lives that have been altered.

The day proved to be fruitful. We made key connections with three schools and some notable educational institutions, with whom we are excited to explore future collaborations. The feedback we received was invaluable, helping us identify areas where we could improve, particularly in enhancing the user experience of our content.

Showcasing Edulution's EdTech Programme

There was a surge of interest in our maths programme, with many attendees eager to learn more about how they could get involved or incorporate our methods into their own teaching. It was clear that our work had sparked a conversation about maths education that would continue well beyond the festival.

The Koloso Festival of Numbers provided us with a valuable platform to network, gather feedback, and increase the visibility of our programmes. To transform the education sector, collaborative action is essential with stakeholders that bring complimentary skills and experience to a shared vision of providing all learners with access to a quality education.

With valuable insights in hand, we are now better equipped and connected to continue our mission. We would like to extend our great thanks to Koloso for hosting this fantastic event, and we look forward to similar opportunities in the future.
