At just 22-years-old, Fishani Mvula, a participant on the Pestalozzi SkillsHub Training Programme, embodies resilience and determination. From the Chama District in Muchinga Province, Fishani’s life took a challenging turn in 2022 when he lost his father. Financial difficulties forced him to drop out of school in Grade 11, leaving his future uncertain.
Determined not to let these hardships define him, Fishani relocated to Lusaka to live with his elder brother. He found a job as a security officer at Pestalozzi Village. While the job provided a steady income, Fishani yearned for a meaningful path to build a better future.
That opportunity came when Fishani learned about the Pestalozzi SkillsHub. SkillsHub is a multifunctional vocational training facility in Zambia focusing on digital, hospitality and agricultural science skills. The programme equips out-of-school youth with in-demand vocational skills, enabling them to secure sustainable livelihoods and contribute to their local economies. Edulution has partnered with Pestalozzi to provide our expertise, technology, and Numeracy Programme as part of the course offering.
Despite Fishani's demanding night shifts, he decided to attend the selection process and was accepted into the programme. This marked the beginning of a transformative journey, reigniting his hope and ambition.
Through the SkillsHub, Fishani gained access to Edulution's Numeracy Programme and life skills training. These sessions, complemented by the Edulution Hub’s empowering environment, have given him the confidence to dream big. Motivational mantras such as “I am unstoppable; we are unstoppable” and “Together we can” have become his daily affirmations, filling him with confidence. The mathematics sessions have allowed him to continue his education and fill-in learning gaps created after dropping out of school.
With a passion for agriculture and food production, Fishani is now leveraging his newfound skills to pursue a brighter future. His story reflects the essence of the Pestalozzi SkillsHub: empowering individuals to rise above challenges, unlock their potential, and create lasting change in their lives and communities. Fishani's hard work and perseverance has fuelled his ambition to pursue a career in agriculture and food production.
